Initial planning
The program includes a complete management of solid wastes in the cities of Dirachio and Tirana and the preparation of necessary projects of environmental protection (restoration of areas for waste disposal and areas of sanitary burial of wastes)
This project, as part of its main purpose, confronts the big problem of non-controllable solid waste disposal and the serious effects in the environment and public health.
For all the above, three axis of actions are foreseen:
First: the formation of a complete system of solid waste management, which shall be based on social, financial and environmental features of the region.
Second: the preparation of specific projects of solid waste management
Third: the introduction of suitable scientific and technical instruments to the management bearers who deal with the project.



Implementation
The aim of this study is the design of a comprehensive program of safe administration of the solid wastes in the cities Durres and Berat and their neighboring areas.

The following are proposed:
  • Gradual restitution of the waste areas of Non-Controlled Disposal for both cities,
  • Undertaking certain measures concerning the former Chemical Unit of the Diracheion area and the abandoned Chemical Products' Warehouses,
  • Construction of an Area for Sanitary Burial of Waste (ASBG) in both cities,
  • A recycling program for materials and the utilization of the organic fraction of waste,
  • Immediate amelioration of the Dangerous and Bulky Waste administration,
  • Immediate amelioration of the Collection and Transport of the waste,
  • Composition of a body of waste administration for both Durracheion and Berat,
  • Monitoring of Environmental indexes,
  • Undertaking of measures in Areas with specific characteristics (Coastal, Forest, Touristy, etc).
